As we all know that the TOP500 project ranks and details the 500 most powerful non-distributed computer systems in the world and the list of the fastest supercomputers in the world’s TOP500 has a new leader, as the Sunway TaihuLight which manages to do 93 quadrillion calculations per second.
Meet The World’s Fastest Supercomputer Which Has 10 Million Cores
Fastest Supercomputer the Tianhe-2 supercomputer just lost the post of the fastest supercomputer in the world. Hence, the TOP500 is a project which ranks and details of the 500 most powerful non-distributed computer systems in the world and now the list of the fastest supercomputers in the world’s TOP500 has a new leader.
As the country,China has surprised the world of computing just by introducing the new Sunway TaihuLight, the most powerful supercomputer in the world today. The machine has a total of 10,649,600 processing cores, capable of taking it to the performance of 93 quadrillion calculations per second.
China built the fastest supercomputer in the world just by using only ‘microchips’ manufactured in the country, managing to position itself well for the first time at the top of the industry without using US technology.
The new leader of the list of the most powerful Supercomputer in the world gives the China another source of pride. The figures, surprising in itself, become even more important when it was discovered that all the equipments has been developed with Chinese technology: no processors, GPUs and gender modules manufactured by Intel, IBM, NVIDIA, and AMD.
Supercomputers are used for heavy simulation calculations. A recurring example of the use of such equipment is the climate simulation: with quadrillion per second of processing, it is possible that a computer is able to calculate the weather fluctuations, helps to prevent disasters or preparing agricultural support policies, anticipating the prolonged drought scenarios or excessive rainfall.
The TaihuLight hit 93 petaflops using 40,960 processors SW26010 designed and manufactured in China. Each component contains four processing management elements (MSEs, its acronym in English) and four blocks, each of which has 64 computer processing elements, with 260 cores per processor and the total system has 10649.600 colors.
While the Tianhe-2, which topped the list since June 2013, by comparison, reached 33.9 petaflops, contained 260,000 Intel Xeon E5-2692v2 processors, each with 12 cores running at 2.2GHz, a total of 3120.000 colors.
However, with the 167 supercomputers, the country also surpassed the US for the first time in the total number of those machines, as there are 165 in the United States. Furthermore, the Sunway TaihuLight supercomputer is installed at the Supercomputer Center in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province.
