October 1st (2014)

Summary: As Nigeria prepares for independence from the British in 1960, a seasoned police detective rushes to find the serial killer slaughtering its native young women.

October 1st is a masterpiece by Kunle Afolayan and is one of the best Nollywood movies on Netflix. It’s arguably the best Nigerian movie of the decade. Kunle Afolayan gain widespread popularity for the production of “Figurine” (2009) some years ago and October 1st was well directed. The movie won three awards at the Africa International Film Festival, Sadiq Daba also won the “Best Actor” award due to his work in the movie.

The movie was very popular during it’s release as Nigerian flood into various cinema in the country to see this masterpiece. It became the second highest grossing movie, only behind Half of a Yellow Sun.

King of Boys (2018)

King of boys is a movie by Nollywood icon, Kemi Adetiba. The movie sent chills down spine of Nigerians across the nation due to it’s high-quality, which was shown throughout the movie. The film went on to break so many records and was in Cinema for a long time. Also on Netflix currently.

Summary: A fashion designer and an arrogant businessman reluctantly try to help each other after accidentally swapping phones in the airport.

If you’re a lover of comedy and romance mixed together, then Phone swap is a good choice of Nollywood movie on Netflix, the movie has a great storyline with excellent humour and good scenes. Personally phone swap is my best Nollywood movie till date.

Lionheart (2018)

The beautiful Nollywood movie by Genevieve Nnaji gained popularity when it was adopted by Netflix. The Nigerian Oscars Selection Committee (NOSC) picked Genevieve Lionheart as Nigeria’s submission to the International Feature Film category of the 2020 Oscars. The selection was done through a voting process in which entries were submitted by Nigerian filmmakers home and abroad.

Mokalik (2019)

The story is well played and the aesthetics are great.  The movie talks about the negative perception apprenticeship programs receive in the country. The movie receive a a lot of popularity due to the casting of celebrity artiste Simi in her first major acting role.
